NACC EDUCATION: Casinos
Graton Rancheria Project:
View of the site looking east towards Sears Point. The dirt field in the foreground is the proposed site of the 392 acre casino and resort. The hills in the distance are part of the proposed open space.
View of the site looking south towards the bay. The dirt field in the foreground is the site of the proposed restored 447 acre wetlands area.
View of the site near some of the farming equipment on the ranch. Some of the equipment and facilities on the site are abandoned and rusty.
View of the site looking west across a dirt field towards an adjacent wetlands area and Port Sonoma. This land is part of the proposed restored wetlands.
View from the middle of field towards Sears Point. The hill to the right is a vineyard; the dirt field in the foreground is the proposed casino/resort site.
View of the Lakeville/137 interchange looking north. To the left is the land currently for sale (500 acres), to the right is the site of the casino/resort.
View of hay bales and hay equipment with Mount Tamalpais in the background. This land would be restored as wetlands.
Several ditches cross the site of the proposed restored wetlands. This one has a hayfield to the right and a dirt field to the left.
An old railroad line also crosses the site. This is looking west towards the Port Sonoma marina and possible water taxi hub. The rail line is in need of upgrading if it were to be used as a passenger/transit line for the casino. To the left would be wetlands, to the right the casino/ resort.
Another ditch, this one dried up, in the middle of the proposed restored wetlands site. This one has hayfields on both sides.
In addition to current use as a ranch, the land also hosts a private gun club for bird hunting. This is the entrance to the club looking south towards the Bay.
View looking east towards the adjacent vineyard on the ridge. In the foreground is the dirt field site of the proposed casino/ resort.
This small cachement ditch is in the site of the proposed restored wetlands and gives some idea of what the shoreline for the entire 447 acres would look like.
View of some of the hills that would be protected as part of the proposed open space/hiking trails site. Just beyond the ridge is the racetrack.
All photographs were taken the week of July 6-12, 2003 by the NACC Web Team volunteers.
